LAVENDER Lavandula angustifolia
The lavender plant comes from the herb family called the Lamiaceae family. The plant has beautiful purple flower heads and scented spicky leaves on a long stem, it is from the flower heads and leaves that the oil is extracted through steam distillation. There are different types of lavender which is why the latin names can be slightly different from each other, and as the plants are different so is the oils therapuatic value slightly different. Lavender oil has been used for many years for treating burns as the oil helps in the healing of damaged tissue and with scars, the oil is excellent in wound healing. Lavender oil is known as a universal oil as it can help with many different ailments from relaxing and calming the mind and body to using it to help heal and cleanse cuts and sores and so on.
